Everything you need to start praying today - how to wash, the prayer itself, the times, and a one-page card for your pocket. Free. No sign-up.

If you have just said your shahada, welcome, and congratulations. You do not need to know everything to begin. You need four things this week: a way to wash, the words and movements of the prayer, the five prayer times, and practice. This page is the map.

The honest part

The five daily prayers are obligatory from the day you take your shahada. What grows over time is how well you pray them - the Arabic, the stillness, the focus. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, taught the prayer to people in stages, and you learn it the same way.

Learn the shape first, then the short words, then the longer ones. Reading from a card while you memorise is allowed. But pray all five, every day, in their times, from now.

The same thing that builds a prayer habit builds every other habit - showing up on the days you do not feel like it, and being honest about where you actually stand. That is the whole job here.

What you actually need

Not much. A clean, quiet spot and modest clothing. A prayer mat helps but is not required. A phone app for prayer times and the qiblah direction. A readable translation of the Qur’an - an easy-to-understand English one - and, when you are ready, one good beginner book rather than twenty. Take it slow.
