Your Wife Cooks. You Still Have an Obligation.

I've heard it a hundred times. "My wife cooks, I can't track." And I get it — you're not the one standing over the pot. But here's what that excuse actually sounds like to me: you're outsourcing your amanah.

Your body is a trust. Allah gave it to you — not to your wife, not to the restaurant, not to the situation. To you. Which means the responsibility of fueling it correctly sits with you, regardless of who's in the kitchen.

The Halal Hand Method

When you can't scan a barcode or weigh ingredients, you estimate. And the most reliable tool you always have with you is your hand.

Your palm = roughly 3–4oz of protein. Your cupped hand = roughly 1 cup of carbs. Your thumb = roughly 1 tablespoon of fat.

Is it perfect? No. Is it close enough to give your body a fighting chance? Yes. You still have to do your best to estimate — and doing your best is the whole point. That's what amanah means.

One of my clients, Tony, had this exact situation. His wife cooked everything. He started using the hand method, stopped pretending he had no options, and when he actually did what I told him to do — his words — "I get the results and it's that easy."

The wife wasn't the problem. The abdication was.
